Derry is situated in the north-west of Ireland. It is the second-most important city in North-Ireland an the only walled-in city in the British Islands. It is a significantly important center of culture and creativity because of its 1450 years of history. It is known for its strong culture of music, chant, dance and literature.

The ancient part of the city is located on the west riverside of the River Foyle, which traverses the city, although Derry is currently extending the river on both sides.

Its substantial cultural heritage includes around 100 sites of historic interest, including churches and cathedrals, parks and monuments.
