The region of Cork is located in Southwest of Ireland, it is the biggest Irish county and the most varied from many points of view. Cork County is totally different from Dublin. It is full of farms and surrounded by colourful fields. The city of Cork is famous for its industrial history, during the 18th and 19th centuries it had produced material like: butter, bacon, flour, tweed of wool and fertilizers. Now it has more than 300.000 inhabitants, and for the tourists there is everything in Cork.

Cork is the third city of Ireland and counts on a long history as an important seaport. Its waved streets have many things to offer to the visitor. The city is proud to have two cathedrals, the cathedral of St. Finne Barre and the cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne. The cathedral of St. Finne Barre approximately has its origin in year 650, when St. Finbarr founded a monástica school on this place. The cathedral was constructed in 1870 in a French gothic style. The cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne was built in 1808 in the neogothic style, although its tower, of 177,17 feet, was not constructed later up to 60 years. This magnificent cathedral was renewed in the middle of nineties to adapt it to modern necessities. From the top of this tower the view extends on the entire city and you can listen to its carillon of eight bells touching the national anthem.

Cork is the main port of Ireland and saw the leaving to more than three million of Irish towards the new world! Many efforts and energies are put so that Cork counts on complete and original program of events, in which are included many surprises and, mainly, has pleased all those who have decided to visit the city during year 2005, when it became European City of the Culture. Nevertheless, Cork is, still before so important appointment, an ideal place for an escape in which to enjoy a city full of life, dynamism, history and culture, in fact, is the seat of three important festivals: the one of cinema and just celebrated, jazz and arts.
